Overview
This 8.5m bronze statue by Croatia's greatest sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic (1929), commemorates the 10th-century Croatian bishop Grgur Ninski, who defied the Pope to hold mass in Croatian, championing Croatian cultural identity. Legend holds that rubbing the statue's left big toe brings luck, hence its well-polished shine. Located just outside the Golden Gate of Diocletian's Palace. Free to visit.
