Overview
The most grand and ornately decorated of Diocletian's Palace's four gates, the Golden Gate was the main entrance used by the emperor in Roman times. Carved niches above the arch likely once held statues, and its decoration surpasses the other three gates (Silver, Bronze, and Iron). Just outside stands Ivan Meštrović's towering statue of Grgur Ninski, a popular photo spot thanks to the legend that rubbing its left big toe brings good luck. Free to visit. At the northern edge of the Old Town.
