Overview
A city occupying an entire small island about 27 km west of Split, Trogir's history spans over 2,300 years, beginning as a Greek settlement in the 3rd century BC and passing through Roman and Venetian rule. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, its highlights include the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Lawrence and Kamerlengo Fortress. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, its maze of narrow lanes offers a far quieter, more intimate charm than Split or Dubrovnik. Cathedral admission about EUR 5. About 45 minutes by bus from Split.
