Overview
A tiny fishing port tucked at the base of the caldera below Oia, reached by descending 286 zigzag steps from the village (donkey rides about EUR 5, or drive the back road). Beneath the red volcanic cliffs, traditional fishermen's tavernas grill the day's fresh octopus, sea bream, and clams - dining seaside at sunset with the caldera glowing pink is one of Santorini's top food experiences. Adventurous travelers swim across to the small islet of Agios Nikolaos and cliff-jump from the rocks, and after sunset boats offer views of Oia's windmill silhouettes above. Free entry. About 10 minutes downhill on foot from Oia's main square.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (tavernas 12:00-22:00)
Travel Tips
Reserve sunset taverna seating 1-2 days ahead. Climbing back up the steps is far harder than descending - pace yourself.
