Overview
Near the Akrotiri archaeological site on Santorini's south coast, Red Beach is a volcanic stretch where rust-red cliffs meet black sand and pebbles. The dramatic terrain was formed by the Minoan eruption around 3,600 years ago, making it a place of great geological interest. Vivid red cliffs against clear emerald water create a scene found nowhere else on earth. The cove is great for swimming and snorkeling, and can also be reached by boat. Free to visit. About 30 minutes by bus from Fira to Akrotiri, then 10-minute walk.
