Overview
A small island across the caldera from Santorini, split off from the main island by the Minoan eruption in the 17th century BC. With only about 300 permanent residents and no large tourist infrastructure, Therasia preserves the pre-tourism character Santorini once had. Its main villages, Manolas and Potamos, perch on terraced cliffs reminiscent of Oia but far quieter. Donkey trekking, simple lunches at traditional tavernas, and hikes over volcanic terrain are popular activities. It's included in some caldera cruise tours or reachable by separate ferry. About 30 minutes by boat from Fira's old port.
