Overview
Perched on the caldera cliff at the northwestern tip of Santorini, Oia is renowned as the world's premier sunset spot. Whitewashed walls topped with blue-domed churches stretching out above the volcanic caldera form the postcard image of Greece. Galleries, boutiques, and cafes line the narrow lanes, while old sea captains' mansions and stone windmills hint at the village's seafaring past. As the sun dips, crowds gathered on the Byzantine Castle ruins traditionally break into applause. Free to visit. About 25 minutes by bus from Fira bus terminal.

Travel Tips
Arrive at least an hour before sunset to claim a spot. The Byzantine Castle ruins are the most popular vantage point, but the windmill at the southern tip is equally beautiful.
