Overview
A massive volcanic rock jutting into the caldera below Imerovigli village, Skaros preserves traces of a 13th-century Venetian fortress town. Once Santorini's administrative center and seat of a bishopric, it has largely crumbled to bare rock after centuries of earthquakes and erosion. A roughly 30-minute hiking trail from Imerovigli leads to the summit, rewarding visitors with sunset and caldera views every bit as stunning as Oia's, but with far fewer crowds and free of charge. Free entry. About a 20-minute walk from central Imerovigli.
Travel Tips
Popular for sunset hikes, but bring a flashlight for the dark descent. Much quieter than Oia for photos.
