Overview
A roughly 7km stretch of black volcanic sand on Santorini's southeastern coast, among the island's longest and most popular beaches. The towering cliffs of Mesa Vouno form a dramatic backdrop, with the ruins of Ancient Thera perched at its summit. Sun loungers, umbrellas, beach bars, tavernas, and water-sports outfitters line the shore, giving it a lively beach-club atmosphere in summer. The black sand gets scorching hot on summer afternoons, so sandals are a must. Free to visit (sunbed rental about EUR 10-15). About 30 minutes by bus from Fira.
Travel Tips
Sand gets very hot midday - bring sandals. Easy to combine with nearby Ancient Thera.
