Overview
Atop 369m Mesa Vouno mountain between Perissa and Kamari beaches lie the ruins of an ancient city founded by Dorian settlers around the 9th century BC. Well-preserved temples, a theater, an agora, and houses spanning the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods remain, with the 'Terrace of the Temple' - famed for rock carvings of nude youths dancing - a particular highlight. The climb up the steep mountain path is demanding, but the summit rewards visitors with sweeping views over both Kamari and Perissa beaches and the Aegean. Admission about EUR 6. Reachable on foot (about 1 hour, steep) from Kamari or Perissa, or by taxi.
