Overview
The Almoravid Koubba is a small pavilion-like structure built in the early 12th century during the Almoravid dynasty that founded Marrakech, and it is the only surviving Almoravid-era monument in the city. Likely built as an ablutions facility attached to a mosque, it was buried underground through successive dynasties until its excavation in 1948. Its arches, dome, and arabesque motifs are considered the origin of decorative elements repeated across Moroccan and Andalusian architecture for the following 800 years, earning it the nickname 'the DNA of Moroccan architecture.' Small in scale but architecturally significant. Admission MAD 20. Near Ben Youssef Madrasa.
