Overview
Founded in the 16th century during the Saadian era, Ben Youssef Madrasa was once the largest Islamic college in North Africa, housing more than 900 students. Reopened in 2020 after extensive restoration, it gathers the finest of Moroccan architecture - intricate zellige tilework, carved stucco muqarnas, and cedarwood - around a central marble-fountain courtyard. Narrow staircases lead to about 130 student dormitory cells on the upper floor, evoking the original study environment. Admission MAD 50. Northern medina, about 15 minutes on foot from Jemaa el-Fnaa.
