Overview
Built at the end of the 16th century by Saadian sultan Ahmed al-Mansur for himself and his family, the Saadian Tombs lay hidden for almost 300 years until their rediscovery in 1917. A narrow passage beside the Kasbah Mosque leads to the Chamber of the Twelve Columns, a dazzling room of Carrara marble, intricate muqarnas stucco, and a gilded honeycomb ceiling. Around 60 tombs survive around a small garden in what is the best preserved Saadian-era complex in Morocco. Admission MAD 70. Beside the Kasbah Mosque, about 20 minutes on foot from Jemaa el-Fnaa.
