Gosausee is an emerald Alpine lake near the village of Gosau, about 25-30 minutes by car from Hallstatt, famous for mirroring the jagged Gosaukamm ridge and the Dachstein glacier on its surface. Its water level is regulated by a dam for hydroelectric power, and the lake is a hub for hiking, swimming, rowing boat rentals, and diving, with the Gosaukammbahn cable car departing nearby. Visiting the lake is free, but parking uses a paid digital license-plate system — about EUR 4 for 2 hours or EUR 10 for a full day. Reach it by car or bus from Hallstatt; there's no direct train.
