Overview
Hallstatt's Catholic Parish Church of the Assumption is a 15th-century Gothic church on a hill above the village, one of its oldest structures. The view of Lake Hallstatt and the village rooftops from the church cemetery (Friedhof) is especially lovely, and the world-famous Bone House (Beinhaus) stands right beside it, making them an easy joint visit. The site is also where the tradition of storing exhumed bones began in the 12th century due to the cemetery's limited space. Free entry. About 5-minute walk uphill from the Marktplatz via stairs.
