Hallstatt Skywalk Viewing Platform

Salzberg, Hallstatt

Overview

The Hallstatt Skywalk is a triangular viewing platform on the Salzberg mountainside at the salt mine entrance, about 350m above the lake. It offers a bird's-eye panorama looking down on Lake Hallstatt and the entire village, with the Dachstein massif and surrounding Alps in view. It's included in the salt mine tour ticket and can also be reached with just a funicular ticket. Included in salt mine ticket (funicular + mine about EUR 40) or funicular only about EUR 20. About 3 minutes by funicular from the village.

As of 2026, the funicular + salt mine combo is adults €29, children (4-15) €14. Closed for cable car reconstruction until reopening on 1 September 2026; advance online booking is recommended.

🚇 Getting there

By train, arrive at Hallstatt station and cross by ferry (about 15 min, ~€3.5), or take bus 542/543 from Bad Ischl to the Hallstatt Lahn stop. The Salzbergbahn funicular valley station is a few minutes' walk from Lahn.

Allow about 1-1.5 hours for the Skywalk viewpoint alone, or about 2.5-3 hours including the salt mine tour.

The first funicular at 09:00 is quietest; avoid 11:00-15:00 when day-trip groups peak. Afternoon light over the lake is good for photos.

Travel Tips

It's most efficient combined with the salt mine tour. If time is short, a funicular-only ticket still gets you to the platform.
