Overview
The World Heritage Museum Hallstatt (formerly Museum Hallstatt) occupies a former rectory and was established in 1884, displaying Bronze and Iron Age artifacts excavated from the Salzberg mountain. Finds from this site were so significant that they gave their name to the 'Hallstatt culture,' the academic term for Europe's early Iron Age. Exhibits cover salt-mining tools, prehistoric burial artifacts, and local history, and pairing the visit with the salt mine tour deepens understanding of the archaeological context. Admission adults EUR 12, seniors/groups EUR 11, children (6-14) EUR 8. About 3 minutes' walk from the Marktplatz, on the lakeside.
